COUNSELLING SKILLS TRAINING

Many practitioners say that they have learnt about counselling, but don’t feel confident to put this learning into practice. How do you actually DO it?

This includes psychology students and early career psychologists, and other helping professionals.

Some practitioners, such as massage therapists, osteopaths, hairdressers and others, find that through their work, clients confide in them or become emotional, and it’s hard to know what to say or do.

This can lead to practitioners feeling insecure, changing the subject, or just staying quiet.

Feel Confident and Empowered To Know What To Do

That’s where Living Real Counselling Skills Training can benefit you. The program is designed to help front liners receive practical training to prepare and equip you to feel confident and empowered when your client confides or shares something deeply personal.

Facilitator’s experience

With over 45 years of working one to one and in groups, including training professionals at university, TAFE, and privately, I have worked with thousands of people over my career and see the true value in learning these skills. Not only do they enhance your day-to-day work, and your career, but they also enable you to grow both personally and professionally.

What does the course cover?

Depending on the needs of participants, we revise and practise material including: how to set up the space, connecting with your client, building trust, deep listening, verbal and non-verbal micro skills of counselling, being “with” the client, using yourself as an instrument of empathy, dealing with your own feelings in the session, what to do when you don’t know what to do, how to end sessions, reflecting on your sessions.

As a participant, you are asked to be the client for your colleagues during exercises and role plays, and are taught and encouraged to give and receive constructive feedback. While the focus is educational, you will probably find you’ll learn about yourself through the process, as well as developing your abilities as a counsellor
